The 2027 COLA is not official until SSA announces it (typically mid-October 2026). Any figure before then is an estimate.

CPI-W Q3 timeline

  1. July–September 2026 — BLS publishes the three monthly CPI-W readings that feed the COLA formula.
  2. Mid-October 2026 — SSA announces the 2027 COLA when the September CPI report is released.
  3. December 1, 2026 — VA rates usually rise by the same percentage.
  4. January 2027 — adjusted Social Security and SSI payments begin.
